The American Finance Association was the first academic organization of its kind devoted to the study and promotion of knowledge about financial economics. It was planned to be launched at a meeting in December 1939 in Philadelphia. The first journal, American Finance, was published in 1942. In August 1946, its name was changed to the Journal of Finance and it became a serial periodical.
The AFA’s membership has grown steadily in recent years, with the AFC sponsoring an annual meeting in January of each year, during which papers covering a full range of financial topics are presented, and the current AFC President speaks on a selected topic, according to a set of regulations governing those decisions.
